Frequently Asked Questions

Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, counseling, or mental health therapy, is a collaborative treatment process between a trained mental health professional and a client. It involves discussing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to gain insight, develop coping strategies, and promote emotional healing.

Psychotherapy can be an invaluable resource for individuals navigating the complexities of everyday life. Whether you’re facing general stress, anxiety, or feelings of overwhelm, psychotherapy provides a safe space to explore your thoughts and emotions. In addition, life transitions—such as starting a new job, moving to a different city, or experiencing changes in relationships—can bring about significant emotional challenges. A trained psychotherapist can help you process these changes, develop coping strategies, and foster resilience. By engaging in therapy, you can gain insights that empower you to navigate both the mundane and the transformative moments of life with greater confidence and clarity.

During your first session, the therapist will ask about your background, reasons for seeking therapy, and any specific concerns you may have. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and determine if you feel comfortable working with the therapist.

The duration of therapy varies based on individual needs and goals. Some people may benefit from a few sessions, while others may engage in longer-term therapy. Your therapist will work with you to establish a plan that aligns with your objectives.

Yes, therapy sessions are confidential. Your therapist is legally and ethically bound to protect your privacy, with a few exceptions related to safety concerns (such as risk of harm to yourself or others) and legal requirements. Your therapist will discuss this with you further during the intake process.

When choosing a therapist, consider their qualifications, areas of expertise, treatment approach, and whether you feel comfortable with them. It can be helpful to schedule an initial consultation to discuss your needs and assess compatibility. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and advocate for yourself.

The frequency of sessions typically ranges from weekly to bi-weekly, depending on your needs and goals. Your therapist will work with you to determine the best schedule for your situation.
